Uptown Street Fest and pep rally activities for entire family
The Birmingham Bowl and the Uptown Entertainment District will join together for the Uptown Street Fest and Pep Rally on Wednesday, December 28, from 2?8 p.m.
The Uptown Street Fest and Pep Rally is free and open to the public, featuring coaches, players, and marching bands from USF and South Carolina, as well as live music on the Miller Lite Stage, a kid’s zone, interactive displays, fireworks, and food and beverages for the entire family, including the Dreamland BBQ food truck. The Martini Shakers will take the stage from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Fans will gather near the main stage for the teams’ pep rallies: USF at 5 p.m. and South Carolina at 5:30 pm. Fireworks will occur immediately after the South Carolina pep rally. The Schmohawks, a popular Birmingham-based band, will perform following the fireworks from 6?8 pm.
“This is our third year to host the Uptown Street Fest and Pep Rally at Uptown. It is a great way to lead up to the Birmingham Bowl and highlight the wonderful city we live in,” said Mark Meadows, Executive Director of the Birmingham Bowl. “Uptown is a vibrant part of our city with many restaurants and hotels.We encourage everyone to come out to the event that is free, fun, and family-?friendly. Cheer on your team during the pep rally and have some fun exploring Birmingham!”
Adjacent to the Westin Birmingham, Uptown is part of the Birmingham?Jefferson Convention Complex and features seven restaurants: Your Pie, Mugshots, Octane Coffee+Bar, The Southern Kitchen & Bar, Texas de Brazil, Todd English P.U.B., and Cantina Laredo.
“The Uptown Entertainment District, which has seven great restaurants and two hotels, is the perfect place in Birmingham for fans of the college football teams playing in this year’s Birmingham Bowl to show their team spirit before the big game,” said Tad Snider, Executive Director of the BJCC. “The Street Fest at Uptown provides fans of the University of South Carolina and the University of South Florida a fun atmosphere to come together and celebrate their team’s successful 2016 football seasons and cheer for another win in the Birmingham Bowl the next day. We are excited to be part of the Birmingham Bowl, an event that over the past decade has become a signature event for our region.”
Complimentary shuttles will be running from Uptown to Legion Field on game day, Thursday, December 29, starting at 7:30 am with returning shuttles operating throughout the game and post?game.
Tickets to the 2016 Birmingham Bowl between USF and South Carolina on December 29 may be purchased online at www.birminghambowl.com. Reserved seats are $50 and general admission tickets are $30. Tickets are also available at the Legion Field Box Office now through game day.
